My name is Kim Schnitzius and I'm a candidate for Weston's City Commission, Seat 2.

The election will be held on November 3, 2020, and I'd like to count on your vote!

About Me

In General:

I moved to Weston from Pembroke Pines 16 years ago and I live in the Tequesta neighborhood. I've spent the past 22 years raising my family and volunteering in our community for non-profit organizations such as Girl Scouts, the marching band boosters at Western High School, Western's PTSA, the Weston Music Society, the Weston Rotary Satellite Club, the Weston Community Garden Society, and many others. I've held leadership positions in every organization I was heavily involved with.

Professional Experience:

I am a former special education teacher with experience teaching students in grades K through 12. As an exceptional student education specialist, I was responsible for running a hospital/homebound education program. While working on my teaching certification at the graduate level at FIU, I was a substitute teacher and media clerk for Broward County Public Schools. I've spent much of my adult life working with students, children, and families and I am currently professionally certified to teach exceptional student education and health, grades K through 12, by the Florida Department of Education. I hope to bring my knowledge and experience to Weston's city commission so that we can continue Weston's tradition as a great place to raise a family.

Emergency Preparedness:

After experiencing hurricane Andrew at my grandmother's home in Miami-Dade County, helping my mother clean up after the destruction of her home in Kendale Lakes, and witnessing the devastation in south Dade, I resolved to prepare my family for natural disasters in every reasonable way possible. Now I want to help my community prepare too! Weston already has robust emergency plans in place and I will support our first responders as they constantly refresh and update those plans so that they reflect the most current thinking in emergency preparedness. To further assist our first responders, I completed training to join Weston's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), a nationally recognized volunteer organization that advocates for community readiness and supports first responders.

My Family:

Kevin, my husband of 31 years, is a software engineer with Citrix Systems, Inc. We have three adult children, Abi, Liv, and Bryce.

Vote for Me on November 3, 2020!

Sincerely,

Kim

Sinceramente,

Kim

Hearts of Weston Unity Caravan Photographed by DRW Magazine.

Moms addressing the national issue of racism by holding a unity caravan to show that Weston is a city with heart. I was proud to attend this event and proud to see so many of my fellow Weston residents taking part to show that we are a city that cares.

'Not Here, Not Now, Not Everglades': Wetland Conservationists Call For No Oil Drilling

I'm in the picture accompanying the article. This press conference was important to our community and a strong indication that our local governments, both county and municipal, are going to fight this dangerous proposition to drill for oil in the Everglades, which could have disastrous consequences for our water supply.  I'm proud to stand with our local elected officials on this issue.
